Encouragement

To encourage means to inspire with courage, spirit or confidence; to stimulate by assistance, approval, etc. or to promote, advance, and foster.  We have reached the end of the school year.  This is the season of graduation; from High School or College and to boot-the beginning of Summer.

There is ample room and need for the spirit of encouragement and good will.  Eighth graders are going to High School, High School Seniors are transitioning to College or starting their young lives and College Seniors are hopeful and full of optimism as they embark upon an endeavor that will change their lives forever.

In the vein of graduation, Mothers and Fathers speak life over your children as they advance to greater. Aunts and Uncles speak a blessing over your nieces and nephews as they tackle challenges and task.  Grandmothers and Grandfathers encourage and pray for  your grandchildren as they encounter new experiences; they are so far from what you encountered during your experiences at that age.

I ask of you today not to limit the encouragement to only those that have graduated.  We all need a little encouraging at some point.  There is no rule that says you can only encourage someone when they do extraordinary things.  You never know what someone is thinking, going through, or dealing with; sometimes those closest to us just need to know that they matter; at least to someone.

Make a fuss over those that you love; make a big deal about it.  A sincere gesture towards another can only strengthen the relationship and make their day.  Not only should this be bestowed upon those that we love, but also on those that we lead, share friendships with, and yes even those that consider you their enemy.  This will show them your heart and you get to put into practice the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Encouragement isn’t encouragement until it is put into practice and practice makes perfect.  Put a smile on someone’s face and encourage them.  In so doing you will put a smile on your face as well.  It’s a by-product of encouragement.  It’s the weekend; make it great - make it epic.  You will never pass this way again.

This has been your 80 seconds of encouragement.
