There is nothing that can move the heart like the
two areas of today’s topic. We go all in
for both; no mountain high enough, no valley low enough, no river wide enough,
no destination far enough, no task too difficult, and no stopping us from
getting to our destination.
Both can be an addictive drug causing us to take
unnecessary risk; doing things uncharacteristic of who we are and what we are
trying to achieve. This can cause us to sink into unfamiliar emotional territory; that
coupled with long term exposure can cause an undesirable shift in our character.
This is not a lecture, just a simple observation; don’t
change who you are trying to achieve what you want. Loving yourself comes first; any success
achieved in Love or Success, without being able to identify or live with
who you've become is critical; one would like to enjoy the
fruit of their labor in peace.
On the flip side and in a perfect world, love would
not be sacrificed for success and vice-versa. What good is success if you can’t
share it with someone you love? I would
submit that one can live a wholesome life absent of success, but let’s face it,
having a measure of success is better.
Having one’s priorities straight is a must; we
shouldn’t have to sacrifice love for success or success for love. Communication between spouses as to decisions
of sacrifice should be mutually agreed upon.
Short-term sacrifices are necessary, with emphasis on the phrase
short-term.
Do not allow success to negatively affect the most
important and intimate relationship, that of husband and wife. Likewise, our spouses should not negatively
affect our path to success. They should
be in harmony, mutually supporting one another.
The result should be as Al Green sang; “Love and Happiness.”
The Near-Term, Short-Term, and Long-Term choices
that are made will have a profound effect on the quality of life that we
experience; choose wisely. Plan your
work then work your plan. The work must
be committed to and completed in order to yield the success fruit of a job well
done. You got it – so go to it.
This has been your 80 seconds of encouragement.
