The "Yes" Authority

Your dreams and aspirations are a source of strength, excitement, and encouragement.  The last thing you or I need is someone tell us no or that our desires of bringing those dreams to fruition is not possible.  This type rejection has a way of injuring the soul and killing the spirit.

I have a friend that was doing the same type of work as me, but at a lower level.  We worked quite well together and enjoyed each others company outside of work.  We worked in logistics, so you know we were always busy; there’s always something to do in logistics.

He used to be in sales before this job and brought a different perspective to logistics in his company.  I inquired about his approach and to my amazement; he shared with me a different view.  He said in sales when you go to a company, attempting to push your product, you don’t want to waste time.  Good point, we all know time is money, but I already knew that.

He said, “If sales is your lifeblood, then speaking to the right person is paramount”.  He went on to say that because of the structure of a company you will run into mid-level to lower-level managers.  Most of them have the power to say “No”; only the upper-level managers and executives have the power and authority of the “Yes”.  So if you’re talking with someone that does not have the authority of the “Yes”, then he concluded that you were talking to the wrong person.

This is critical information; you don’t want someone with only the power of the “No” to sap your strength, stymie your creativity, or kill your dream.  For that matter, you shouldn’t allow anyone with the power and authority of the “Yes” to do that either.  The fact remains that you have a vision of your future that shouldn’t be destroyed by short-sightedness or narrow mindedness.

In your quest to accomplish your dreams and ambitions, you may run into a lot of “No” people.  Don’t get discouraged.  Remember that “No” is simply the opposite of what you want to hear; it’s not the end of the world nor is it the end of your dreams.  This is your life; you determine what history records about it.  If running through troops and leaping over walls is what you want written, then prepare yourself and go to it.  Ain’t no stopping us now – you know the rest of the song.

This has been your 80 seconds of encouragement.
