Overcoming Challenges

There are many things that shape our lives; few as powerful as the challenges or trials that we face.  They have a unique way of shaping us into the person that we see in the mirror.  They construct our character, affect our integrity, mold our point of view and give us perspective.  Whether we have successfully achieved our goal or miserably failed, those areas within us are still affected.

Some challenges are greater than others and require more time, patience, or tenacity.  Rome wasn’t built in a day so don’t allow delay to frustrate you; delay is not denial.  There are many different ways to approach challenges.  Some require finesse, others brute strength, but all require analysis.

My father always told me to think about what you say or do-how it’s going to impact me individually.  Then he said to think about what you say or do-how it’s going to impact others.  With that in mind I would go about my business of creating a solution that would solve my problem, have minimum impact on others, while benefitting all.

Challenges can be dealt with in various ways.  In my line of work, there are many formulas to problem solving or decision making. What I’ve settled on is this: First identify and understand the problem; Settle on a desirable outcome or resolution; Formulate multiple (two to three) approaches or ways of handling it; Select the approach that gives the greatest chance of success; Plan for then carry out the selected approach; Last is to monitor the progress to see if the goal is being achieved.

Undoubtedly, we must make adjustments in our lives when faced with challenges.   The only constant in life is change; once accepted, we can discipline ourselves for what’s to follow.  Our ability to adapt to change initially dictates the amount of frustration that must be endured.  Said ability gives us steady footing in order to face the challenge head on.

Improvising during our challenges gives us the ability to deal with the issue from multiple angles and gives the greatest chance of success.  Sometimes the solution is obvious and at others, it may require advice from a trusted individual or individuals.  What I believe is important here is to have options.  In any situation, feelings of helpless are the enemy to hope.  As long as there is hope, there is a chance.

Overcoming brings sweet victory.  It says that you have been successful in that endeavor.  A sense of accomplishment ensues.  This also develops additional skills within that may not have existed otherwise.  Experience is gained as well as a level of confidence in one’s ability for future events.

I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me according to the Apostle Paul.  My hope comes from Christ; He helps me to be a conqueror, over-comer, and champion.  How are your challenges defining you; what are they saying.

This has been you 80 seconds of encouragement.
